The Only Success That Matters Is YOURS!

"Control your life, or someone else will."

This major premise defines why career planning is extremely important in the life of anybody who desires success in every endeavor.

Whether you are about to finish a course, or want to change jobs at a later point in life, career planning is a critical and major aspect of the process. Before you actually start applying for a job, it is necessary to be certain of the areas you would like to work in. Not taking the requisite steps in the career planning process could end you up in a job you would not be happy, or something you do not have the proper skill set for.

How do you ensure you are on the right seat?

We all have a chair that designates a position in our career. For most of us the position, the responsibilities, the growth prospects and many such factors decide whether we should  be happy in our chosen career or not. Sometimes, you may be unaware that another seat may send you much higher in the hierarchy and satisfaction level. At other times you become frustrated with your job for no easily identifiable reason.

There are many such factors that determine if you are on the right seat. Let's take some ICE into consideration:

Involvement

How involved are you with what you do? Are you so engrossed with your job, that you have no time to think of anything else? Or you are so less connected with your job that having it or not makes no difference at all?

Albert Einstein, the great scientist, was so involved with his job of thinking and finding solutions to mysteries of physics and the cosmos that he had no time left for anything else. His involvement was total and absolute. Do you have such kind of involvement?

Competence

Do you find your skills and aptitude matching the job requirements? You might be made for greater things in life than what you are currently doing. Get your skills assessed and find out if you are where you're supposed to be. You could be the proverbial "square peg in a round hole," wasting time with a job you are not designed for. You only need to discover, and declare!

Enthusiasm

Do you feel enthusiastic in what you do? Enthusiasm is that burning desire that makes you want to stay up late just to finish that job. Charles Schwab once said, "A man can succeed at almost anything for which he has unlimited enthusiasm."

I couldn't emphasize more than enough the writing on the wall I've once read, "If you are not fired with enthusiasm, you will be fired with enthusiasm." I could only smile in agreement, and bet you would, too.

The right person for the right job - YOU.

There are other factors such as vision for the job, future growth potential, learning opportunities and others of such accord that determine if you are on the right seat. But the guiding questions remain - Are you the right person for your job? More importantly, is the job you're holding now right for you?

Career planning is something that everyone is faced with at some point in their lives. Although you can have some fun with it, this should not be taken lightly. Most important of all, be honest with yourself. No one can make a life for you. Ultimately, you must choose your path and define your own success.
